The New Progressive Party looked poised to extend its campaign fundraising lead as it brought in an estimated $800,000 through a donations drive Saturday.
The bulk of the haul, more than $701,000, came through a lottery for a new Jeep, which was won by a Río Grande woman. Some 350,000 people participated in the raffle.
NPP campaign director said personal donations and direct deposits secured via telephone would push the total above $800,000.
The “radiomarathon” kicked off at 1 p.m. and wrapped up at 6 p.m.
Office of the Electoral Controller data shows that NPP is outpacing the Popular Democratic Party in the campaign fundraising race by a ratio of about two to one.
