Spain’s Beta Book Café coming to PR
The first location is slated to open at Plaza Carolina at year’s end. The 6,400 square foot bookstore entailed an investment of roughly $750,000.
Other stores are planned for San Juan, Mayagüez and Ponce.
Those include a $1.4 million location at San Juan’s Plaza Las Américas, the largest shopping center in the Caribbean.
Plaza Las Américas previously housed a highly successful Borders bookstore, which was closed after the U.S.-based bookseller liquidated through bankruptcy. Beta Book Café will reportedly take the empty first floor of the former two-story Borders.
Beta Book Café’s broad inventory is similar to Borders. The Andalucian company has reported tapped José Quevedo, the former Borders manager in Puerto Rico, to head the opening of its island stores.
