Teachers storm Senate in pension protest

By CB Online Staff

A group of teachers took over the Senate floor on Thursday as a special legislative session opened to consider a reform of their pension system.

A spokeswoman for Senate President Eduardo Bhatia said several upper chamber employees were hurt and property was damaged in the protest. She said the teachers would not be forcefully removed.

Another group of protesting teachers held placards criticizing Gov. Alejandro García Padilla, who convened the special session as he unveiled his teacher pension reform late Wednesday night.
