The Environmental Quality Board headed cleanup efforts on a dielectric oil spill in the Floral Park area of Hato Rey on Thursday.
An estimated 80-gallons of the non-conducive oil spilled across a section of Juan Pablo Duarte Street at around noon, forcing the closure of the roadway. Authorities said the spill was caused by vandalism of a transformer at the Metropolis Condominium.
Genaro Torres, head of the EQB’s Environmental Emergencies Program, said the oil was cleaned from the road but that some flowed into the sewer system.
The QB construction company was directed to undertake remedial measures.
EQB personnel were aided by workers from Riclem Enviromental Services in the cleanup.
Torres said the environmental impact been determined.
