Toa Baja mayor: I’m not running for governor

Toa Baja Mayor Aníbal Vega Borges assured Thursday he has no intention of running for governor.
“My candidate’s name is Luis Fortuño,” the New Progressive Party mayor said during an activity in Santurce.
“I think this is so simple and there should be no problem—as soon our governor says he’s the NPP candidate, everyone will get behind him and campaign for victory in 2012,” Vega Borges said.
The popular Toa Baja mayor, a former House member, has been mentioned as a potential NPP gubernatorial candidate in 2012 if Fortuño does not seek a second term.
Vega Borges made the comments at Sports & Recreation Department headquarters, where nearly three dozen young offenders in the custody of the Juvenile Institutions Administration were certified as referees and scorers.
