Juanma to defend WBO title in Bayamón in April

Puerto Rican prizefighter Juan Manuel “Juanma” López will still stay close to home in his next defense of his World Boxing Organization featherweight crown.

In fact, he’ll be returning to the scene of his 2005 professional debut when he squares off against Mexican Orlando Salido at Rubén Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamón on April 16.

Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum had originally announced that the 126-pound title fight would be held at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in Hato Rey.

It will air live on Showtime, according to Top Rank Promotions.

López (30-0, 27 KOs) is coming off an eighth-round knockout of former world champion Rafael Márquez in Las Vegas in November. It was his third straight stoppage victory.

Salido (34-11-2, 22 knockouts) was dethroned by unanimous decision in September following a loss to Cuban-born WBA and IBF belt-holder Yuriorkis Gamboa.
