House speaker: Adviser’s anti-Obama comments ‘unacceptable’
The comments by Wys came in a tweet on the social networking service Twitter. She was responding to a tweet by Obama regarding the upcoming birthday of first lady Michelle Obama.
“Who cares. Take her to Burger King, buy her a sundae with double banana, taker her to your homeland, Kenya!” Wys tweeted.
González issued a statement calling the comments “unacceptable.”
“They don’t represent my feelings and are the sole responsibility of the one who wrote them,” González said. “This House and its speaker do not support those comments in any way.”
The House speaker didn’t indicate whether Wys would face sanctions or firing. Comptroller’s Office records show she has been paid $588,000 in public funds for her role as adviser to González since 2009.
González called on all House of Representatives employees to be “prudent” in their use of social media, but said monitoring that usage could infringe on their right to free speech.
