Weather system tracking toward PR

By CB Online Staff

Forecasters are monitoring a low pressure system in the Atlantic that is expected to develop into a tropical storm as it tracks toward Puerto Rico.

The low pressure area was located about 1,1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles on Monday morning and moving westward between 20 and 25 miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said conditions are conducive for a tropical depression to form in the next day or so, giving the system an 80 percent chance of becoming a named tropical storm within 48 hours.

Interests in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of the system, the NHC said.

The NHC was also tracking a tropical wave south of the Cape Verde Islands, giving it a 20 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next two days.
