Prepa preps bid for new facilities
The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (Prepa) is expected to soon publish a request for proposals to build natural gas-fired power units near some of its powerplants, CARIBBEAN BUSINESS sources say. The alternative is being raised because it is more cost efficient to build new units than it is to retrofit some of the existing older units. "Prepa has been writing up proposals for new generation for the past three years, but they never finish them. Using a public-private partnership process might finally advance these projects," one source said.
